Fauna

A large variety

One of the most conspicuous aspects of the fauna are the large mammals, primarily herbivores, which, due to their great density, are easy to observe, at least at certain times when they come out of the forest to feed in the meadows and clearings. Today, in the early evening at the beginning of summer, it is easy to observe fallow deer, wild boar and foxes.

Mammals

Wild boar: very common in the area, often seen in groups in wooded areas. Roe deer: a small deer inhabiting the forests of the valley. Fox: an omnivorous predator that can occasionally be spotted. Badger: also known for its black and white stripes on its face. Apennine Wolf: although rarer, the Wolf is present

Birds

Buzzard: a diurnal bird of prey that can often be seen circling in the sky. Great Spot- ted Woodpecker: easily recognised by its red plumage. Owl: a small nocturnal bird with a distinctive call. Red Kite: another bird of prey that can be spotted in the region.

Reptiles and Amphibians

Spotted salamander: a colourful amphibian that can be found in damp woods.
